Each of these companies views compliance with environmental legislation and regulation as a minimum requirement. SA Power Networks, CitiPower and Powercor have made voluntary environmental commitments.
The Boards of SA Power Networks, CitiPower and Powercor are committed to action to reduce their environmental footprints, particularly greenhouse gas emissions, and to adapting the networks to better withstand forecast climate conditions. Meeting national reporting obligations with regard to greenhouse gas emissions has involved considerable work by the asset companies to improve data collection and measurement for internal mitigation and reporting.
SA Power Networks, CitiPower and Powercor have an Environmental Management System (EMS) certified to the international standard ISO 14001:2004. It provides the framework for implementing the Environmental Policy. Business Units with key environmental responsibilities have detailed environmental plans and significant environmental initiatives are monitored by the Environmental Steering Committee which offers strategic guidance on environment and climate change issues.
SA Power Networks, CitiPower and Powercor have a Climate Change Policy and Strategy which assists them to manage the impacts of climate change on their assets and operations and to work to reduce their contribution to climate change. Updates regarding the implementation of this strategy are regularly reported to the Board’s Risk and Compliance Committee.
