Health & Safety
Safety of the public and community is a key issue for Spark Infrastructure and each Asset Company. An extensive summer preparations program that factors in associated risks is reviewed and updated each year to ensure continuity of supply and public safety. In addition to these programs, SA Power Networks, CitiPower and Powercor also have crisis management policies and procedures should a crisis event occur.
SA Power Networks, CitiPower and Powercor each have health and safety policies which are developed through consultation and deployed within robust health and safety management systems. The systems are third party accredited to the certification standard Advanced Level Safety MAP edition 4 as well as, in the case of SA Power Networks, the Australian standard AS4801.
In 2014, SA Power Networks successfully achieved one of Australia’s highest safety accreditations – the Australian Government Building and Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme, developed by the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner, the Scheme provides one of the most stringent and robust safety audits of Australian building and construction companies.
CitiPower and Powercor Health and Safety Management System is certified to AS/ NZS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Standard.
These companies also have a comprehensive Health and Safety Committee structure and Health and Safety reports are presented to each Board meeting. Health and Safety is also reported to the Board through the Risk Management and Compliance Committee.
Spark Infrastructure recognises that the workforce of the Asset Companies can be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions such as high voltage electrical conductors. Ensuring an appropriately trained and committed workforce is vital to safety performance.
Workforce development programs complement the safety strategies in place and focus on areas of workforce culture, attraction, retention and training. Key components of the asset companies’ training and development programs are apprentice, trainee, and graduate schemes, which are part of the business’ commitment to building a sustainable workforce.
