TransGrid is the owner and operator of the NSW high voltage electricity network, connecting generators, distributors and major end users across the state.
Its core role is to provide safe, reliable and efficient transmission services. Through its high voltage network it connects more than 3 million homes and businesses across NSW and the ACT to the electricity grid.
As the back bone of the National Electricity Market, its network makes energy trading possible between Australia’s three largest states along the east coast. TransGrid supports a competitive wholesale electricity market which provides a level playing field for all participants; the benefits of which filter through to consumers.
TransGrid is owned and operated under a 99 year lease from the NSW Government which commenced in December 2015. Economic regulation of the business is the responsibility of the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).
